Cancer Support, Counseling, Play Therapy, and Hypnosis
Dealing with cancer at any age is difficult physically, psychologically, spiritually, and emotionally. A child or adult and their family can be lost in fear especially when the diagnosis has just been made. I offer cancer patients support and tools to help them get through treatment.
Being diagnosed with any type of cancer can be frightening, making a person feel devastated as and your mind races and a myriad of emotions are experience. Many cancer patients report feeling optimistic with surgery but if additional treatments of either or both chemotherapy and radiation therapy are ordered the patient with cancer can find themselves having conflicting feelings, fears, and uncertainty. Counseling is helpful to sort our feelings, and to to help with stress and anxiety. Hypnosis, affirmations, guided imagery, prayer, meditation, and mindfulness are tools I use in combination with integrative psychotherapy. Feelings of anxiety and fear can leave a person emotionally, spiritually and physically drained. I am here to offer you hope, self-empowerment, and balance during your healing journey with cancer.
Using an integrated approach of Jungian Therapy, hypnosis and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), a problem-focused, action-oriented strength -based approach to boost your self-esteem and confidence about the choices you are making and be an active participant in your care. You will learn to put balance in your life, perhaps for the first time. You will learn tools to reprogram negative thinking, decrease stress, and learn to focus on the positive rather than the negative. These are tools to help you have a better quality of life that will be used long after you complete your cancer treatment

Child Therapy, Play Therapy, and Family Therapy
Play therapy using prescriptive play therapy is available for children, siblings and teens undergoing cancer treatment. Clients are seen during radiation, chemotherapy, pre and post surgery of all ages. Self pay and some insurance plans are accepted such as Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal, United Health Plan, Driscoll Chip and Driscoll Star Medicaid. Play is a child’s language. Teenagers and adults use their words to express themselves. Children express themselves best through play which is their natural language. In the playroom, toys, games and activities are used like words. Children are provided special therapeutic toys to help them express what they have difficulty saying with words. Expressive and creative arts, dolls, puppets, paints, or other toys are used to say what the child is thinking and feeling. Many times the child with cancer, brothers and sisters of the cancer patient or children of parents undergoing cancer treatment have a hard time understanding or explaining the events or their feelings about what is taking place in their life.
Play Therapy is an appropriate counseling approach for these young children because they naturally communicate through play. Toys in the play room are specifically chosen to allow children impacted by the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, the opportunity to develop self-understanding, explore their own real life situations and resolve their childhood inner conflicts. This approach offers them a safe environment in which they can express their feelings, wishes and needs.
Integrated counseling is used with older children and teens using affirmations, mindfulness, medical meditation, guided imagery and hypnosis. Jungian therapy and Whole person therapy are used in addition to cognitive behavior counseling. Faith based counseling is offered upon request.

Hypnosis & Cancer
I offer pediatric and adult hypnotherapy service to those with various forms of cancer. Research studies has shown hypnosis to be extremely beneficial for cancer patient and loved ones who battled anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and other secondary symptoms associated with traditional cancer treatments. While obtaining my non-secular doctoral degree in divinity I opted to follow a track on holistic life counseling and wrote my dissertation on research outcome studies with cancer patients and chronic illness using traditional western medicine alone (allopathic medicine) with research studies combining wellness counseling, CAM Therapies, holistic therapies, counseling, prayer, and meditation. The results were amazing!
Side effects of chemotherapy and radiation are noted to have potential side effects such as nausea, appetite loss, and intestinal upset. Hypnosis has been shown to improve the capacity of may patients from children to adults to be able to manage these symptoms.
